What about consonants?

And last but not least...the consonants!!

I just want to remind you that this is coming to an end...

We learned so much about phonetics, the vowels, diphthongs, and triphthongs sounds...so now we are ready to see the final part...

We can find 24 consonant sounds...they are a lot, aren't the?

Just check them out...

Let's start with the single one, just like in spanish or at least quite simmilar /m/,/n/,/ng/(like in mango), /l/, /h/, /f/, /r/, /w/,/j/.

In the other hand, we can find the consonant pairs, /p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, among others.

We also can find the french one of the two "th"...we also can classify them in, voiced or aspirated. Checl out the video to improve your English communication skills.

And to our surprise, the teacher just brought another envelope with words according to a sound...You want to see how got we were...There it goes.

What about diphthongs?

Hello again....

Let's continue with the sounds...
In our last session, we talked about vowels...so now we continue with the diphthongs.

Do you already know some? NO? so... let's start!!!!!!

We can find 8 different diphthong sounds in English, some of them are more difficult to recognize than others.
We played a game in class in which we needed to find a word for each one... does it sounds tricky? It wasn't that hard...

Can you find something wrong or strange in the picture?
Yes, of course, all the BEER lovers out there...don't worry...we know that the right diphthong is the I with the schwa.
So we have come to the conclusion that our teacher put it back in the wrong way while he was explaining how to pronounce it  😂🤓
And the other thing is...there are  2 triphthongs !!!! 
In English we also have some of them...in this case, 6...they are easy to remember...only adding a schwa to the diphthong..LOL!

What about Literacy?

English is easy they said...but did you know that we can find more than 40 different sounds? Some say there are 42, others say you can find 44 sounds....Isn't it AMAZING?

But what do we know about it?

We know there are an American accent and the Brittish one (and many others)... who cares which one you use...but are you using it in a correct way?

What we know is that we can find vowels and consonants but also diphthongs...

Let's start talking about the vowels, well in Spanish we've got 5, right? So how is it possible to find 12 in English? These "vowels"  are referred to different sounds. It depends on how "short" or "long" they are. You can identify the long ones I mentioned before with this sign ":". 

The most common sound is "schwa". Do you know this one?
